Best Short Courses To Spruce Up Your C.V. 📈
Right so you have decided that you would like to study further but you don't have the time or money to be a full time student, what do you do? You want to enhance your CV – make it stand out from the rest? What to do, what to do? An online course...of course! Before you can actually start learning something there are so many decisions to be made and it can be a tad overwhelming but do not fret, after reading this article, you will be well on your way to checking those decisions off the list, one by one.
There are several intuitions that offer online courses to students who wish to study both full time and part time. In this article, two of the most popular institutions will be covered: Unisa and GetSmarter.
You might have heard people talk about Unisa but haven't really known what it's about - here's the lowdown.
Unisa is Africa's leading E-Learning platform and they offer both national and international accredited qualifications. They offer a variety of courses ranging from education to law to economics so there is something for everyone.
Fees vary depending on what you want to study and how long you wish to study for. On average, one programme could cost R5400 with R1800 being the cost of one module. Textbooks and miscellaneous fees are often not included in the programme total.
At first this sounds like a vitamin you take to help with concentration right? But it is in fact one of the largest online education companies in the world. GetSmarter has partnered with some of the world’s top universities i.e. Cambridge, UCT, and Oxford to provide students with the best resources to help them obtain their qualifications. GetSmarter offers an array of courses for you to choose from varying from arts and design to project management and marketing. All courses are annually reviewed to ensure that the content is up to date and students have a leading advantage.
Like Unisa, GetSmarter's fees vary from course to course but on average, a 10 week course would be roughly R12,500.
How long are the courses?
Both Unisa and GetSmarter offer programmes that vary in length. Some courses are 6 weeks, some are 12 weeks, and some are a year. Within that time, you will complete modules, just as you would if you were going to a campus every day.
What else should I know should I wish to study online?
A grave misconception about online studying is that many think it is "easy". It is not. Studying online requires discipline, time management, diligence and accountability. Yes, you are working from home and do not have the pressure of attending classes or tuts but you need to hold yourself accountable and set aside time daily to ensure that you are covering all the material. It is true that you have more freedom when doing an online course but you also have more responsibility.
Studying online is a great option if you are a graduate and wish to study part time while working but it is also an option for someone fresh out of matric who wants to do short courses because he has yet to find his passion. Whoever you are, whatever stage of your life you're in, you are never "too anything" to learn something new and E-Learning is the perfect way to go about broadening your horizons from the comfort of your own home.
